So you want to be a fighter huh? (MMA out of the Spotlight)

If you have a pulse, you've seen it on TV. MMA is blowing up worldwide, with events and reality shows surpassing Pay-Per-View records and carrying entire television networks. The sport has undeniable characteristics that make it nearly impossible to stay away from. You will cheer, stand behind your favorites, and at times cringe from the sight and sound of a thundering body kick or joint popping submission. No matter what the case may be, one thing is for sure… you're as good as hooked. Crowds roar with a big victory. Fighters are hoisted, heroes, catered to, sponsored, and made household names. We've all heard our friends say it. "I should be a fighter" or, "I could take that guy no problem." They are CLUELESS as to what goes on behind the scenes …the torture, blood, sweat, and tears of training alone will weed out most after their very first day... So you want to be a fighter huh?

Training for a mixed martial arts fight is Hell. Get used to it. It will push you physically and mentally to places that you've never known existed. You've merely just begun. Very soon in this sport you will find out what kind of person you are. If your mind isn't open, you don't listen, or lack intelligence to soak up EVERY possible skill available for you to acquire... YOU WILL FAIL! Stop before you get all bruised up. Still with me? Alright then…Train with the best. Seek out the strongest, heaviest, most well-rounded experienced fighters that you can. While some of your lower level fights may look more like bar-room brawls, study films of some big names in the sport. What is the common denominator? These guys are extremely knowledgeable! Move half an inch in the wrong direction for a split second, and you could find yourself tapping frantically, praying that your arm remains intact. Toss your ego aside! Someone is going to catch you sooner or later.

My future articles will be for those that have already made the choice to sacrifice and take the risks necessary to step up their game. I will be interviewing various people as well as writing about crazy MMA specific workouts, tips, nutrition, and supplements that will give you an edge over your competition. Come along for the ride if you think you have what it takes.
